The Chuk-son Trail: An urban interpretive explorationSaturday, January 18th, 9:30 -11:30 AM and 9:45-11:45 AM
Join Ironwood Tree Experience staff and youth leaders from the Community Naturalist Internship on the Chuk-son Trail! We will stroll 1 mile through parts of Tucson’s Santa Cruz River, historic barrios, & greenways for a rich diversity of experiences.
The Chuk-son Trail is an urban interpretive walk that explores the rich culture, ecology, and communities of the past and present. The Trail highlights that which makes Sonoran Desert living so fascinating as we learn about Tucson’s wildlife, plants, architecture, murals, traditional foods, shrines, history and local characters.
There will be two public walks with start times at 9:30am and 9:45am near the base of Sentinel Peak (A Mountain) on Mission Lane at the parking lot just east of Mission Garden, 946 W Mission Ln,Tucson, AZ 85745
We will conclude our walk at La Pilita Community Center in Barrio Viejo at the Northwest corner of S Main Avenue and W Simpson Street.
Accessibility Note: The trail occurs on mostly paved sidewalks or pathways with a small area on an uneven dirt path. There is also one set of stairs on the main trail. Bathrooms will be available at both the beginning and end of the walk. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing. Bring a reusable water bottle & sun hat for the entirety of the walk. Options to return back to the starting point are walking, carpooling, & streetcar. Young people ages 8 and up are welcome!
To support our youth leaders in facilitating their presentations, we will be limiting eachstart time group to a maximum of approximately 20 people. Priority will be given tothose who RVSP.
